HUGE NEWS - USUAL SUSPECTS LISTING

This morning, Bay to the Beltway was listed on the San Francisco Usual Suspects Homepage.

Here's some background on Suspects from the site itself:

ABOUT USUAL SUSPECTS

"The Usual Suspects has been a source for San Francisco political junkies since 1995. Originally a blast fax, discussing potential and real candidates for various offices in San Francisco, it evolved into a web site in 1996. The site's name came from Claude Rains' immortal line in the movie Casablanca - "Round up the usual suspects. " San Francisco's political intrigues occasionally remind some people of the complex and mysterious world of Casablanca, and I felt it would be a nice tribute to link our town to the movie.

Of course, the Bryan Singer movie "The Usual Suspects" came out shortly after the web site debuted, trumping the immediacy of the original reference. (Fortunately, the wheels within wheels within wheels depicted in that movie are also an appropriate match for our City's convoluted politics...)

I'm Alex Clemens, and I run Suspects. I am a former aide to three San Francisco Supervisors ; former aide to a Clinton administration Assistant Secretary ; former aide to the San Francisco City Attorney ; former non-profit organizer in San Francisco's South of Market; former community relations director for a national broadband company; and former manager of the public affairs practice of for a San Francisco communications firm.

I run Barbary Coast Consulting, a communications and strategy shop, and work primarily as a community organizer and government relations guy. In other words, sometimes I work as an advocate for some of those things covered in these pages. Though I like to think of myself as quotable - Chron, Ex, Sacramento Bee, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, KQED Forum (see July 17, 2003 - 9a program), and the BBC (go to 2:34 into the clip for my bit) - I make a point to avoid editorializing about the things I'm working on when I'm writing or updating my page. You're now duly warned.

Suspects links to stories about local politics and websites that cover local political issues. It serves as a centralized web presence where those interested in San Francisco politics, elections and governance can quickly find the information for which they're searching. Suspects also frequently holds content found nowhere else on the web that originates from scholars, pollsters, and journalists, and we're proud to host their work. I am a media enthusiast, and my enjoyment of reading and watching and surfing for the next big story led me to start Suspects. I have enjoyed the experience of providing essential nutrition to political junkies for eight years.

Suspects links to what's being written in the Chron, Mercury, Guardian, Weekly, Ex, Asian Week, Noe Valley Voice, and so on, without fear or favor. I'm quite partisan in real life, but I strive for an impartial outlook in these pages. Let me know if I'm failing.

I would be helpless in this pursuit without the able assistance of my staff members Deborah Lao and Benjamin Gettleman. They're smart, helpful, tough, and have good noses for news about City politics.

Thank you for visiting. Y'all come back now, y'hear
?"

Online Campaigns - Electronic Politics

Bay to the Beltway: protesters, quotes, battlegrounds, campaign & 527 blogwatch

Bay to the Beltway had four great posts today:
New York GOP Convention Protests
Quote of the Year - Jesse Burchfield on New Hampshire Senate Race
Current Electoral Vote Battleground
Official Campaign and 527 Blogwatch

He didn't say anything about Gavin Newsom or Mayor Newsom or even San Francisco politics. He stayed away from the Board of Supervisors including Jake McGoldrick, Michela Alioto-Pier, Aaron Peskin, Fiona Ma, Matt Gonzalez, Chris Daly, Tony Hall, Bevan Dufty, Tom Ammiano, Sophie Maxwell, and Gerardo Sandoval. Likewise, he didn't mention Supervisor Jake McGoldrick, Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier, Supervisor Aaron Peskin, Supervisor Fiona Ma, Supervisor Matt Gonzalez, Supervisor Chris Daly, Supervisor Tony Hall, Supervisor Bevan Dufty, Supervisor Tom Ammiano, Supervisor Sophie Maxwell, and Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval
